It's been a while since there has been any news about the Delmar Loop Trolley's startup date.   The headline of the last article about it in November 2017 said "No Money No Trolley" which should give you an idea of what the delay is about.  From St. Louis, MO Post-Dispatch, 11/18/17:

No money, no trolley: Loop Trolley Co. says it won't begin operations without another $500,000

The Loop Trolley Co. has notified key local officials that the long-delayed line won’t begin operating unless it gets a new infusion of $500,000 to cover startup costs and initial operating deficits.

Article

So it appears to be a stalemate.  One would hate to see the investment in the infrastructure and the obtaining of several trolleys from Portland and Seattle all wasted for nothing.   Anyone have half a million sitting around?

I see that about a month after the above article, a private company stepped up to the plate with an investment.  From St. Louis Public Radio, 12/15/17:

Clayco gives Loop Trolley project much-needed economic boost

The head of a developer with strong St. Louis ties is hoping his commitment to the Loop Trolley will help lift a cloud that has been hanging over the project.

KSDK-TV, Channel 5 in St. Louis, MO, 12/15/17:

Business owners remain skeptical of Loop Trolley, amid big donation

Some businesses owners in the Delmar Loop have complained about the construction of the Loop Trolley Project.

And even with a donation that’s intended to get the Trolley back on track, some business owners remain pessimistic about the project.

While no date has been announced yet (STILL), it was announced back in April that when it does start running in revenue service, the Delmar Loop Trolley will run on a reduced schedule until a third vehicle is delivered and operable.  From St. Louis, MO Post-Dispatch, 4/23/18:

When Loop Trolley finally opens, it will be on reduced-hours basis at first

When the long-delayed Loop Trolley finally begins running, it will do so on a reduced-hours basis because of a continued delay in completing the renovation of one of its three operating cars.

Story

The last estimate of an opening date was "Late Spring" …. which I'd say (and the article reminds us) it is right about now.  Summer begins next week.

When planning the Fest now in progress, it did cross my mind to make a stopover in St. Louis after riding the Texas Eagle from Austin, in order to do the Delmar Loop Trolley.  I wrote to them in the Spring, and I was assured that the trolley would be in service by July.   At very least, even if it didn't work out for the Fest, it was an option for me to consider.  Well living by the believe-it-when-you-see-it rule, I'm glad I made other plans.  Now they are hoping August or September.  From the St. Louis, MO Post-Dispatch, 7/10/18:

Still no word on Loop Trolley start date; backers now hope for August or September

The Loop Trolley’s long-awaited starting date still has yet to be pinned down, and trolley officials now say they hope to begin service in August or September.

OK , time for more updates. August has passed, and September is about 2/3 over. Time to revisit this.  Here is an article from over the summer.

St. Louis, MO Post-Dispatch, 8/25/18:

Latest Loop Trolley opening guesstimate: it could be a couple months away

There’s still no date set for the start of operations for the long-delayed, much-debated Loop Trolley.

KSDK-TV, Channel 5 in St. Louis, MO, 7/11/18:

What's changed in St. Louis while the Loop Trolley hasn't moved an inch

If you were hoping to take a ride on the Delmar Loop Trolley this summer, the multi-million dollar project is facing yet another delay.

St. Louis, MO Post-Dispatch, 11/9/18:

Ribbon-cutting for Loop Trolley service set for Thursday, but actual start date still unclear

A ribbon-cutting ceremony heralding the start of service on the Loop Trolley is scheduled for next Thursday morning , University City Mayor Terry Crow says.

Update

Now isn't that silly.  A ribbon cutting ceremony for a trolley that one still can't ride, with no start date to even look forward to. I wonder if this will fulfil somebody's promise of the service starting up, even though it really hasn't started until anyone can board a trolley anytime they want to.

It appears that service will also start on Thursday.
