The California High-Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA) tomorrow will release the draft environmental impact report for its 14-mile high-speed rail project section between Burbank and Los Angeles for public review and comment.

The draft environmental impact report/environmental impact statement (EIR/EIS) evaluates the impacts and benefits of CHSRA’s plan to realign existing rail tracks in the corridor to allow for two additional tracks.

The plan would feature two electrified tracks for high-speed rail that can be shared with Metrolink and Amtrak, and two non-electrified tracks for Metrolink, Amtrak and freight traffic.

CHSRA Board Greenlights Burbank-Los Angeles Section

The California High-Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA) on Jan. 20 certified the Burbank to Los Angeles Final Environmental Impact Report/Environmental Impact Statement (EIR/EIS), approving the approximately 14-mile section of the 500-mile Phase 1 high speed rail alignment connecting San Francisco to Los Angeles/Anaheim.

The Final EIR/EIS was released in November and presented to the Board during meetings on Jan. 19-20.

Following the Final EIR/EIS’s HSR Build Alternative, the Burbank-Los Angeles section will use existing Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority-owned right-of-way adjacent to the Los Angeles River, through the cities of Burbank, Glendale and Los Angeles (see map below).
