UP Customer News:

Weekly Service Update

Posted Date: August 26, 2015

To Our Customers,

Velocity saw a very small decrease while carloadings were up and system terminal dwell improved by more than half an hour. Scheduled maintenance projects for the upcoming week include tie, rail and bridge maintenance on 14 key subdivisions, with a heavy focus on the Northern Region, the Central Corridor and North-South Routes. As a reminder, Union Pacific also will perform a maintenance blitz on the Worthington Subdivision, which is located between Sioux City, Iowa, and St. James, Minn., starting next week. Portions of the subdivision will be completely closed Sept. 1-7 and Sept. 16-23. Re-route plans are in place, and we have worked with customers along the route to develop individualized plans. View information on the Worthington Sub work and other current maintenance projects (user ID and password required).

Below are some network statistics from last week:

  • Carloadings for the week ending Aug. 22,  2015, were 182,833. This is up 1.4 percent compared to the previous week.
  • AAR system velocity was 25.4 mph, which is down 0.1 mph compared to the previous week.
  • System terminal dwell was 27.9 hours, which is down 0.7 hours compared to the previous week.
  • In total, we had 292,682 cars online, which is flat to the previous week.

Thank you for your business. Please contact the National Customer Service Center or your Union Pacific representative with any questions.
