Early work starting soon at U District station location with demo'ing of some existing buildings and utility work. Of course major work won't happen until the underground section is in place. From Sound Transit.

Good to see, and the U-Link line does not come on line until 2016. Once NorthLINK and EASTLINK Come on line, probably the end of bus tunnel operations.

Didn't know that construction was this far underway. Still, going to need to get LINK to Lynwood soon, working with Community Transit's SWIFT line(assuming they add a second one) to serve the Boeing Everett complex. I am not sure, the new wing plant is going to take up part of the parking lot. Just like extra capacity for the 737 plant in Renton is doing the same. One of the reason that Metro extended the 140 to the Landing, and upgrading it to the RapidRide F line.

Light_rail_vehicle.jpg PROJECT UPDATE: Northgate Link Extension

rooseveltpour.jpg

A concrete crew pours a new road base on NE 65th Street. Restoration at the intersection of 12th Avenue NE is scheduled through spring, weather depending.

Trenching work to begin along First Avenue NE near Northgate

Crews are expected to begin work in early March to move electrical transmission lines underground along First Avenue NE next to Northgate Mall. Crews will keep at least one lane of traffic open in each direction at all times in the project area between NE 105th Street and NE 100th Street.

Putting the transmission line underground makes way for the future light rail station and elevated guideway.

Be sure to sign-up for Northgate Station project alerts to receive construction alerts as work proceeds in the area.

Tunnel boring machine approaches Roosevelt Station site

The first of two tunnel boring machines is expected to arrive at the Roosevelt Station site within the next few weeks. Launched in July, it’s currently working its way through the ground just a couple blocks north of the excavation site. It’s already traveled more than 7,400 feet from the Maple Leaf portal.

The other tunnel boring machine is following a parallel path for a future southbound tunnel. It was launched November 2014 and has traveled more than 1,500 feet to just north of NE 85th Street.
