LIRR news release, 9/27:

Buses Replace Trains Between Ronkonkoma & Central Islip for Track Work This Coming Saturday, Oct. 1, and Sunday, Oct. 2

Trains Leaving Ronkonkoma for Greenport Will Also Have Adjusted Train Times

Buses will replace trains on the Long Island Rail Road’s Ronkonkoma Branch between Ronkonkoma and Central Islip stations beginning at 12:37 a.m. on Saturday, October 1, and continuing until 12:32 a.m. Monday, October 3, for scheduled track construction. Service to Greenport will be affected as well with adjusted train times in addition to the busing between Central Islip and Ronkonkoma.

To avoid the busing and related delays, Ronkonkoma Branch customers planning a trip to New York City this weekend are urged to use either the Port Jefferson Branch or the Babylon Branch as an alternative. Both will have normal train service. Ronkonkoma Branch customers who plan to travel via the LIRR this weekend can pick up a copy of the Special Timetable for the Ronkonkoma Branch for the weekend of October 1-2 at any terminal or branch station. The Special Timetable can also be found on the LIRR website at http://web.mta.info/..._2_2016_REV.pdf. Here are the highlights of the schedule changes.

  • Additionally, the 10:05 a.m., 11:05 a.m. and 12:05 p.m. trains from Ronkonkoma will originate at Farmingdale with no bus service from Ronkonkoma. The 11:18 p.m. train from Ronkonkoma will originate at Central Islip and depart 15 minutes later normal.

Eastbound

  • Customers will detrain at Central Islip and board buses for Ronkonkoma. Passengers will experience up to an additional 23 minutes travel time.
  • Additionally, the 4:42 p.m., 5:42 p.m. and 6:42 p.m. eastbound trains from Penn Station will terminate at Farmingdale with no bus service to Ronkonkoma.
  • On Sunday only, the 11:17 p.m. eastbound train from Penn Station will run normal to Ronkonkoma.

Greenport to Ronkonkoma

Customers at all stations from Greenport through Medford who are traveling westbound will board trains for Ronkonkoma 32 minutes later than normal. They will detrain for buses to Central Islip when train service will resume to points west. Passengers will arrive up to 1 hour later than normal.
