Metra news release:

Metra posts on-time performance rate of 96.1 percent for 2016

(January 18, 2017) - Metra in December posted an on-time performance rate of 95.1 percent for the month, exceeding its goal for the 22nd consecutive month. For all of 2016, Metra operated with an on-time performance rate of 96.1 percent.

Metra’s goal is to operate at least 95 percent of its trains on time. Like the rest of the U.S. commuter railroad industry, Metra considers a train to have operated on time if it reaches its final destination within five minutes and 59 seconds of its scheduled arrival.

“We are pleased that the great majority of our trains continue to arrive at their final destinations on time,” said Metra Executive Director/CEO Don Orseno. “Our goal during the challenging winter months is to work hard to offer safe, reliable and comfortable service, while providing real-time information to our customers about the status of their trains.”

In December, 841 of 17,329 trains were tardy by six minutes or more. The most common cause for delays was related to weather conditions. Signal/switch failure, freight interference and mechanical issues were other major causes of Metra train delays in December.
