   MBTA schedules meeting to discuss upgrades to South Attleboro station    

 

 

The MBTA has announced a virtual public meeting to discuss improvements to the dilapidated South Attleboro commuter rail station on Newport Avenue, which will include replacement of what’s been described as the “rusty and rickety” looking pedestrian overpass.

Well it turns out that the overpass is in a lot worse shape than let on above.  Now, the entire station is closed due to the condition of the overpass, as it is not only unsafe to walk on it, but also to walk under it.  I hope it does not get to the point where trains cannot pass under it either, as that would be detrimental to both MBTA and Amtrak service (at a point where the Acela does actually blow by at 150 mph).

    Due to concerns about deteriorating structural conditions on the pedestrian overpass at South Attleboro Station on the Providence/Stoughton Line, the station has been closed effective Friday, February 26, 2021 and until further notice.

Apparently some commuters who don't get MBTA alerts or pay attention to the above news reports did not get the memo and went to the station for trains that would not be stopping there.  If the station is so dangerous that it can't be used, were those people in danger standing there?

Dozens of people showed up at the South Attleboro commuter rail station Monday morning expecting a train, but they quickly had to adjust their day when they realized one wasn't coming.

    RIPTA says commuters can take bus from South Attleboro to pick up train in Providence 

 

 

The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority offered an alternative to commuters who normally ride the train from South Attleboro Station.

   Design plans nearing completion for overhaul of South Attleboro train station, official says    

 

 

Five months after an unsafe passenger overpass forced the closure of the South Attleboro commuter rail station, plans to resume service and reopen it are still in the works.

     When will the South Attleboro train station reopen?  

 

 

It's been nearly eight months since the commuter rail stopped at the South Attleboro Station after inspections indicated that the pedestrian overpass required full replacement.

Reconstruction of the South Attleboro commuter rail station is expected to get under way in the fall.

  South Attleboro commuter rail station project still awaiting funding    

 

 

 

The design for the South Attleboro MBTA commuter rail station is complete, but construction will not be starting anytime soon because funding has yet to be approved.

 

Still waiting

 

But let's see if the opening of Pawtucket-Central Falls nearby helps to mitigate some of the inconvenience.

   Demo work to start on dilapidated South Attleboro commuter rail station   

 

 

 

Demolition work at the South Attleboro commuter rail station is expected to begin Monday, according to a letter received by the city council from the MBTA.

Nothing happens quickly....   Two years and two months after the  station was closed, now they are finally starting demolition.
