The majority of our participants will now be detraining from the Silver Star train from Tampa in Hollywood, to catch TriRail either northbound or southbound towards their hotels, or to the TriRail/MetroRail Transfer to get to their hotels. I have therefore added times for the closest TriRail frequencies between Hollywood and the Transfer station. I did the same for Thursday morning when we catch the northbound Silver Meteor.
Update 6/19/08:
A further itinerary update has been made. I realized that I left out of our "official" Fest activities on Tuesday 7/22 a one-station stretch on the MetroRail between Government Center and Brickell. And what a stretch it is. Although it takes one minute to traverse it according to MDT's timetable, it may be the most scenic. The line runs on a very high bridge over the Miami River and affords nice views of the downtown skyline. It may be akin to Brooklyn's F G trains on the Gowanus viaduct.
So what we are now doing is to ride eastbound/southbound from the Palmetto endpoint, passing Government Center to Brickell. We then ride that MetroMover line first, and complete the Metromover rides at Government Center. From there we would go south to Dadeland Mall for dinner as planned. Effectively we ride over the above segment twice instead of not at all. The change adds a mere 7 minutes to the itinerary.
I've also changed all reference to MetroRail to say MetroRail Green Line. The existing route is the Green Line, and future connections to the Airport Transit Center, FIU, Dolphin Stadium, and Calder Race Course will be known as the Orange Line.
The Airport Transit Center will be a new intermodal station, still outside the confines of Miami International Airport, but closer to the airport than the current TriRail Miami Airport station. The Transit Center will be served by a short TriRail extension, and Amtrak will also be extended to the new station from its current terminus in Hialeah.
You can bet that I am drooling over those new rail connections! We'll have to return to Miami in 2016 when that is all finished!
