Customer Service Bulletin - Hurricane Sandy Update

CSX's network from Richmond, Va., north to Albany, N.Y., will shut down no later than 3 a.m. Monday as Hurricane Sandy moves toward landfall in the Northeast. The closure will include Boston, Mass., and extend as far west as Brunswick, Md.

Hurricane Sandy is expected to make landfall packing high winds, heavy rain and significant storm tides, resulting in flooding in coastal and low-lying areas. Widespread power outages also are expected. The company is coordinating with passenger and commuter agencies serving that region, and passengers are advised to check with those agencies for any schedule changes or closures.

Freight customers are urged to secure rail cars in their facilities on high ground, away from any potential flood-impacted areas.

CSX is estimating at least 72 hours of delay on freight traffic moving through the Northeast region. Once the storm passes, better estimates will be available. However, forecasters believe the storm may impact this region until midweek.

Today, CSX is staging materials and generators just outside Sandy's projected path, and crews will be removing crossing gates and securing other infrastructure. Further information will be communicated as conditions warrant.

CSX Customer Service Bulletin - Hurricane Sandy Update 10/29

CSX's network from Richmond, Va., north to Albany, N.Y., has been closed due to Hurricane Sandy in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions. The closure includes Boston, Mass., and extends as far west as Brunswick, Md.

Hurricane Sandy is expected to have widespread impacts, including high winds, heavy rain and damaging storm surge. Flooding is likely in coastal and low-lying areas. With power outages expected across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions, generators have been staged, and rock ballast and other materials are positioned to address any infrastructure damage.

Customers are urged to secure rail cars in their facilities on high ground, away from any potential flood-impacted areas. Most passenger and commuter train operations have been suspended in the affected areas, and passengers are advised to check with those agencies for any updates.

A network assessment will be conducted in the impacted areas as soon as it safe to do so. However, CSX is estimating at least 72 hours of delay on freight traffic moving through the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.

Further information will be communicated as conditions warrant.

CSX Customer Service Bulletin - Hurricane Sandy Update - 6:30 p.m. - 10/29

Due to Hurricane Sandy, CSX has implemented an embargo in the Northeast. The embargo applies to traffic originating on other rail carriers and traveling to an area from Boston to Philadelphia excluding Selkirk, N.Y. The embargo is necessary to avoid congestion on the network and support a fluid recovery when the storm passes.

As reported earlier today, train operations have been suspended on CSX's network from Richmond, Va., north to Albany, N.Y.

CSX Customer Service Bulletin - Hurricane Sandy Update - 6 p.m. - 10/30

With inspections complete, CSX is restoring service in the region impacted by Sandy with the exception of lines between Philadelphia and Albany, N.Y. Portions of those lines remain affected by high water, downed trees and commercial power outages.

Crews will continue recovery efforts between Philadelphia and Albany as service slowly resumes in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions. The company is checking with customers in the affected areas to make sure that they are able to receive shipments.

Shipments moving through these areas could be delayed 72 hours or more. Additional or updated information will be communicated when available.

Amtrak and commuter passengers are urged to check with those agencies on service plans.

Customer Service Bulletin - Sandy Update - 10/31

CSX continues to restore service following Sandy, and today lifted embargoes on all traffic to all locations.
The only exceptions are:

- Intermodal shipments to Elizabeth Marine Terminal (EZMT), Port Newark Container Terminal (PNCT), and New York Container Terminal (NYCT).
- Automobile shipments to Doremus, N.J.

Service is resuming slowly, due to continued commercial power outages that affect CSX's signals, and the inability of some customers to accept shipments. Heavy snow in the higher elevations of West Virginia also is complicating train operations, but that situation is expected to moderate over the next 24 hours.

Customers should continue to expect at least 72 hours of delays on shipments traveling to or through the storm-impacted areas.

Amtrak and commuter agencies on CSX in that region are returning to service, and passengers should check with those agencies on service plans.

CSX Customer Service Bulletin - Sandy Update - 11/1

CSX's network that was impacted by Sandy earlier this week is fully restored, though trains in the Northeast continue to operate slowly due to commercial power outages and some issues on connecting rail carriers. All embargoes on all traffic are lifted except for intermodal shipments to Elizabeth Marine Terminal, Port Newark Container Terminal and New York Container Terminal, which are not yet operational.

Customers should continue to expect delays of at least 72 hours for traffic operating near or through the region as a backlog of traffic held out of the storm-impacted area is worked off and customers gradually come back on line. In addition, commercial power outages continue to result in slower operations over some routes.

CSX has lifted the remaining embargoes on intermodal traffic to Elizabeth Marine Terminal, Port Newark Container Terminal, and New York Container Terminal. No embargoes are in place on any traffic at this time.

As reported late last week, CSX's network is fully restored. However, customers should continue to expect delays on shipments through the storm-affected area.
