One sign that Seattle trying to make areas near Downtown Seattle more attractive to families is paying off. Right now Seattle Public Schools is in the middle of working on their next construction levy, and one preliminary proposal is funding for an elementary school in South Lake Union. It would be the first new site school in the city in a long time, and the first elementary school in SLU since the last one there closed after the Earthquake of April 1949.

I do not know if it can be totally attributed to the South Lake Union Streetcar, although it was built primarily in response to the development boom in the area. Any new school in the area faces a lot of hurdles, but nice to see the idea being considered. Also, it's a stretch, but last year, a closed elementary school in the south end of the city re-opened, the best I can attribute that to Central LINK, is that a bus route that feeds into Ranier Beach Station passed by the school.
