We're getting close, and the scatter-shot forecasts of two weeks ago are starting to get better. The latest forecast is in the first post.

Unfortunately, while I was out today in a light jacket (the heavy coat was uncomfortable being so warm outside), things will be colder by next weekend. With very low possibility of precipitation and temperatures not TOO cold as they were last week, we should be OK. The above forecasts don't tell us what the wind might be like, but that also makes a big difference in what it feels like. I'll likely encounter this Sunday morning in Jersey City leaving my hotel and walking to PATH, as there is almost always a good strong breeze off the Hudson River.

The Weather Channel is saying wind for Sunday and 40% chance of snow showers on Saturday. It's going to be very chilly during the fest, but the good news is no heavy snow or rain to interfere with travel or walking outside.

I think back to the Metro New York RailFest in January of 2009, when on Friday we froze at High Bridge during our layover at the end of the Raritan Valley Line, and then later the same weekend on Sunday when we last rode Shore Line East it was much milder. Not warm, but relatively more comfortable. So each day will bring its own conditions, and we need to be ready for anything. Highs and lows are subjective, as they can take place any time of day. it can be warmer just after midnight and then the temperature falls through the morning and into the afternoon. And while one might expect it to be warmer say, in New Jersey or Philly than it is in Connecticut, as you can see by the above example the converse happened to us 5 years ago.

I hope Friday's arrivals get an evening like tonight here. Even the Silver Star arrived early.
