Another column, promoting not only using Buffalo's old Central Terminal as the only Buffalo station, but also extending the Metrorail light rail to the same facility. As a package, it sounds like a good idea. And extending it even further to the Buffalo Niagara Airport makes even better sense since there would be a lot more flights at the airport than trains at the train station.
Column in Buffalo, NY News, 4/22/18:
Proposed train station is not multimodal
As unveiled earlier this week, the DOT's plans for rebuilding Buffalo's downtown Amtrak station pay only lip service to the widely stated goal of providing seamless connectivity between modes of transportation. It's not true that the proposed Exchange Street station is "directly connected" to the Metro Rail.
Column here. Of interest near the end is something I hadn't heard, if true ---- that GO Transit is considering extending beyond Niagara Falls, ON to Niagara Falls, NY and even possibly Buffalo. New concept, an international border crossing of a commuter rail line... although the border facilities that currently serve Amtrak and VIA Rail passengers on the Maple Leaf are already in place.
