New Libertyville Metra station on hold after bids come in more than $1M over budget
A rebuild of the downtown Libertyville Metra station was years in the making, but the project is now on hold after bids came in well above what village officials projected.
Budgeted at just over $1 million, plans for a new Metra station were approved on June 13 in conjunction with an adjoining housing development, but the lowest of seven bids came in at $2.39 million, according to Libertyville Village Administrator Chris Clark.

“I’ve been very adamant with him about my disappointment over our bids for this,” Mayor Terry Weppler said. “From day one, everyone has been told we have $1.1 million. That’s the amount we’ve got. These are not taxpayer dollars from your property taxes or from anything else other than from (Metra) parking fees. There aren’t going to be any other dollars available.”
