NS Intermodal Service Alert:

Signal Upgrades in Jenkinsburg, GA

Jul 02, 2015

To ensure Norfolk Southern maintains high standards of safety and service across our network, we will upgrade our signal systems south of Atlanta in Jenkinsburg, GA on Monday, July 6th as part of the overall positive train control (PTC) initiative.

The outage window is planned for 8am - 2pm ET.  By schedule the impact to Intermodal trains should be minimal, but congestion-related transit delays are possible.

About Positive Train Control
PTC describes technology mandated by the Rail Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (RSIA) that is designed to automatically stop or slow a train before certain accidents occur. In particular, PTC is designed to prevent train-to-train collisions, derailments caused by excessive speed, unauthorized incursions by trains onto sections of track where repairs are being made, and movement of a train through a track switch left in the wrong position.
