Metra news release:

Metra warns about vandalism, theft to cars

(August 4, 2017) - Metra Police are asking for the public’s assistance and warning the public regarding several theft and vandalism crimes to cars parked in Metra parking lots on the South Side of Chicago.

The most recent incidents involved cars parked at Metra lots at Kensington/ 115th St., 93rd South Chicago and Hegewisch stations used by Metra Electric Line and the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District’s South Shore Line. Tires and rims were reportedly stolen from multiple vehicles.

“We are asking our customers and members of the public for their assistance not only with identifying those responsible for these crimes but also with preventing future occurrences,” said Metra Chief of Police Joseph Perez.

The Metra Police Department is working with the Chicago Police Department and other local law enforcement agencies to address theft and vandalism crimes in our lots. The department has stepped up patrols of all lots in the areas where the problems have occurred. Customers or area residents who experience these crimes, have any information regarding these thefts or observe suspicious activity near Metra stations are asked to report the crimes directly to Metra Police at 312-322-2800.

Metra customers are reminded that they should never leave valuables in plain view, even if their car is locked. Take them with you or put them in the trunk or at least out of sight. Customers can further protect their vehicles by purchasing and installing wheel locks.
