I have restored the Los Angeles costs page to the fest website. No major changes were made. Information on LACMTA (Metro)'s website remains sketchy. An inquiry to Metro produced the following response:

You may purchase Metro Day Passes via Ticket Vending Machines (TVM) at Metro Rail Stations. A TAP Card is not required. Currently, paper day passes are dispensed. The Day Pass is good for fare on all Metro Rail Lines and base fare on all Metro buses. If you travel on an express Metro bus, (bus that travels on a freeway), additional zone charges apply. On Metro Bus Lines, zones charges are $0.60 per zone for a maximum of 2 zones. The Day Pass purchased via the TVM is good for travel on Metro bus lines as well.

The Metro Day Pass is not valid on LADOT lines or on Metrolink Lines. If you board a Metro Line and then plan to transfer to a LADOT Line, you may purchase a Metro-to-Muni transfer either via the TVM or from a Metro Operator upon boarding a Metro Bus. If you board the LADOT bus first, you will need to pay their fare.

If you travel on a Metrolink Train first, your Metrolink ticket is valid for base fare on Metro rail and bus lines. For the ticket to be valid, your Metrolink ticket must have been used on a Metrolink line, which validates the ticket for the day, before boarding a Metro line.

You must already have a TAP Card if you wish to purchase a Metro Day Pass on a Metro bus. However, you may pay one-way cash fare on a Metro bus without a TAP Card.

We will be pleased to send you a Metro System Map and other printed material which you may find helpful in planning your travel while in the Los Angeles Area. If you would like to receive the material, please provide your mailing address.

We trust this information is helpful.

So apparently when we go from Metrolink to Metro we can still travel around the rest of that day by showing the validated Metrolink ticket. Still a moot point if we already also purchased a DayPass for Metro travel that morning to get to the start point at Union Station.

For the LADOT bus trip from Long Beach to San Pedro, if you had paid a cash fare for a one-way trip, you could purchase a Metro-to-Muni transfer that would be accepted on the bus. But if we have DayPasses, we still have to pay the bus fare of 90 cents both ways.

And the other important point is that we can still purchase a paper DayPass at the Metro rail station of origin, so no dire need yet for a TAP Pass unless you like to collect fare media. :)
