New Claymont Rail Station in Delaware to Replace Aging Amtrak Facility
A new train station, known officially as the Claymont Regional Transportation Center (CRTC), the first phase in a major redevelopment project in the northern Delaware town, is currently taking shape with plans to open in 2023, according to Railway Technology.
I am sure Amtrak owns the facility adjacent to their tracks, but that headline still sent me into fact-checking mode because the wonder is whether Amtrak ever used it. SEPTA trains do stop there on the way to/from Wilmington and Newark, but modern day Amtrak trains make no stops between Philadelphia and Wilmington. For a very short time in the late 1970's and early 1980's there was a Philadelphia-Washington Amtrak train known as the Chesapeake, which stopped at Chester, PA and Wilmington and Newark in the First State, but not at Claymont.
