Well here we go again. Another weekend of generating a Fest trip report!  Once again we welcome all fresh faces and familiar ones as we embark on the 38th RailFest that I've put together since we started the contemporary series of Fests in 2001. It should be old hat by now, but every event brings its many days of planning and its challenges. People coming from afar are already on their way to the area, and I'm taking a break from packing before I set out on my way midday Friday. It's always appreciated that people will travel from long distances by any transportation means just to ride trains in one area. Typically we haven't strayed from the Northeast on the winter events, so it results in others having to travel to get here. The expected weather is amply covered in another thread, so I won't go into that. But it appears that we will enjoy ourselves with minimal worry about appreciable snow or extreme cold. It should be a good weekend. I'll tweet our progress using the #otolfest hashtag, and you can use the same for the time we are together or your travels to & from. Whether you or I do it, this also helps me later on in doing the report. Initial meeting place on Saturday will be the SEPTA Broad Street Line in travel from the Walnut/Locust and City Hall stations, and on Sunday at Grand Central Terminal starting approximately 1/2 hour before our train's departure (about 8:30-8:40 or so). Once the departure track is announced or displayed, we will begin to walk towards the train. Anyone who arrives after that can contact us by call or text to find out what car we end up in. On Saturday, once we depart on the subway, we can possibly be ahead of our schedule in Philadelphia if we catch earlier trips on the trolley or Market-Frankford Line. Sunday's travels are commuter rail and Amtrak so I don't expect us to get ahead of our schedule. And that's it. Already our travelers are checking in from their trips on other threads, and tonight more were created to handle each of the 2 official days, as well as the travels home. See most of you in Philly, and some later on in the day.

The people meeting for the initial SEPTA portion of the Fest has agreed to meet in the lobby of the Doubletree in the Saturday morning 8:20-8:25 AM timeframe having checked out. We will then go down into the underground walkway and eventually the Broad Street Line platform, and wait for the subway that should be coming at 8:40 AM. Folks can also join us one stop north at City Hall shortly after that.
