Metro Magazine, 8/19/10:

Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley announced the formation of a new O’Hare Express Blue Ribbon Committee to undertake a comprehensive study for express train service between O’Hare International Airport and downtown Chicago.

Here is that story.

Huffington Post, 10/8/10:

Mayor Daley's vision for a high-speed train from O'Hare to a "superstation" under Block 37 at State and Randolph faces major hurdles, as Jon Hilkevitch points out in the Chicago Tribune; a proposal by the Midwest High Speed Rail Association may offer some solutions.

Chicago, IL Tribune, 10/8/14:

Five aldermen well-versed in Chicago's transportation issues on Wednesday called for yet another study to examine the feasibility and cost of launching high-quality airport express train service for O'Hare International Airport, Union Station and McCormick Place.

This article is all over the place with CTA, Metra, and Amtrak, hence its classification as Miscellaneous. I do question Amtrak being considered for trips within the Chicago area as it's supposed to be an intercity carrier.

StreetsBlog Chicago, 9/2:

High Speed Rail Association: Use Metra Tracks for O’Hare Express

Mayor Rahm Emanuel and aviation commissioner Ginger Evans stated earlier this year that creating an express train to O’Hare Airport is a priority for this administration. However, the Blue Line is already a fairly speedy way to get to the airport, which could easily be upgraded via a few short-term improvements. Therefore, the city might be wiser to invest in neighborhood transit projects, rather than creating a premium service for well-heeled travelers.

Evans floated the rather fanciful idea of double-decking the Blue Line to create right-of-way for the express trains. However, if the O’Hare Express is going to happen, the Midwest High Speed Rail Association believes it should use the existing Metra infrastructure that’s located in the same airport-bound transportation corridor as the Blue Line and the Kennedy Expressway.

Crain's Chicago Business, 2/25:

O'Hare express rail project takes another step forward

The city has selected WSP/Parsons Brinckerhoff, an engineering/design firm with deep experience on transportation projects at O'Hare International Airport and worldwide, to draft a plan to begin express train service between the Loop and O'Hare.

In a statement given to me and my colleague Micah Maidenberg, the city said the company will identify potential routes, recommend where to locate stations downtown and at O'Hare and project how much the likely multibillion-dollar project will cost. The $2 million contract will be paid for with city aviation funds.

he high-speed link has been a longtime desire of Emanuel and predecessor Richard M. Daley. But roughly a decade was lost trying to figure out how to use the same right of way as the Chicago Transit Authority's Blue Line in the Kennedy Expressway. That plan has now been dropped, and Emanuel focused on other items in his first term.

Chicago, IL Tribune, 2/9/17:

Few specifics as Emanuel sets goal of starting express rail to O'Hare

Mayor Rahm Emanuel's administration set an ambitious three-year goal Thursday to move forward with high-speed rail service to O'Hare International Airport, but aides offered few details for a project that has long proved elusive for Chicago.

Here we go again, officials mis-characterizing high speed rail.  BTW, CTA & Metra already connect to O'Hare.  How is a new line involving expensive land takings going to offer a transit benefit......except to consultants and contractors?    Sloan

Best solution is to upgrade Metra lines so that theythat have half hourly off peak Service 7 days a week. The service could alternate local express local. If they did this on all lines it would reduce traffic on the expressways.

For the airport line run 15 minute headwAys on Metra line out of union station. At ohare extend the people mover to the commuter station.

I agree with this. The people mover is being expanded to the new consolidated rental car facility which happens to be next to the O'Hare Transfer station for Metra. Hopefully it'll be an easy transfer. We'll see if Metra increases their schedules though.
