I returned today from a cool little trip of my own which took place between December 27 and December 30 between Boston and Hartford CT. I have relatives down there to visit, and since I was alone I wanted to take the train. I took Amtrak 147 to Hartford last Saturday leaving Boston at 217 PM and I got to Hartford at 535. It was a nice train which went significantly fast south of Springfield since we were now on Amtrak's trackage. I was able to track the speed since I got a GPS system for Christmas. The Maximum Speed that I read on the GPS was 77.7 for the travelling on Saturday. The visit with the relatives was a good time but I wanted to get home for some New Year's Activities. This Morning I boarded Amtrak #493 which is a shuttle to New Haven in Hartford at 1123 which was 6 minutes late. It wasnt long before we were speeding our way to New Haven at speeds close to 90 miles an hour and we got to New Haven at 12:07 and at the same time Amtrak #93 arrived at the next platform to take people from my train to NYC and points south. I had to wait an hour and half for Amtrak #2158 Acela Express to Boston, this would be my first Acela experienced. It Arrived at New Haven at 129 PM on time and I boarded with no problem. The train ran very smoothly and it was a very scenic trip. My train made every stop on time and arrived in Boston's South Station at 3:29 PM which was 4 minutes. I met my mother outside and went home, I really enjoyed this trip and it was something that I would certainly do again and its really cool to travel on railroads with a GPS system. Cool! Thanks for the mini-report Jack. I'm glad that you had a good time and got to experience the Acela Express for the first time.
