I received a phone call on Monday 6/4 from Amtrak, informing me of changes for my scheduled trip on Train #5 on July 14th. The woman told me of the new schedule (2 PM Chicago departure and 7:50 PM Emeryville arrival), the later connecting Thruway bus in the Bay Area, and she also mentioned the detour via Wyoming.
One mistake she made was that she told me the longer schedule was because of the Wyoming detour. Obviously we know that the Wyoming route is shorter timewise, and that the real reason for the extended period on the train is due to trackwork delays west of Salt Lake City.
The return trip on Train #6 was not mentioned, but then I made seperate reservations for each direction.
And of course we do know that the Colorado trackwork start date has slipped a few times, so the Wyoming detour may not happen, at least in one direction, should the beginning date for the project get even later.

BTW HaRRy already has us covered... On the OTOL scanner frequency page for the California Zephyr, he has also listed the frequencies via the Wyoming route!

When I got back from Austin TX on Friday I had two messages waiting for me on my answering machine. One for each leg of California Zephyr trip informing me of the changed schedule and the Wyoming routing.
