Train hits trespasser in New Brunswick; NJ Transit, Amtrak halted

 

NJ Transit and Amtrak trains were halted Wednesday along the Northeast Corridor in New Jersey and New York after someone was fatally struck on the tracks by an Amtrak train.

 

The train involved was number 653, on the Keystone route, according to Vernae Graham, an Amtrak spokeswoman. The incident happened at about 6 p.m. near the Jersey Avenue station.

I was on train 148 going the other way and stuck on one of the middle tracks. The train moved forward and then backward around Midway (Monmouth Junction, MP 41) but did not cross over to an open track and instead backed all the way to just outside the Trenton station while passed by many trains on the open track, and waited as the engineer apparently outlawed (reached 12-hr limit) and had to be replaced. Then finially up to Metropark over three hours late.
