India’s first monorail to run from Sunday

Come Sunday and India’s first monorail will be thrown open to the public, eight years after it was first proposed. With the Maharashtra government now keen on unveiling key projects before the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the monorail will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on Saturday.

With this, India will join countries like the U.S., Germany, China, Japan, Australia and Malaysia that run monorails.

Faulty planning delays Mumbai monorail’s Phase II

Mumbai: The second phase of monorail from Wadala Depot to Jacob Circle is likely to get delayed because of MMRDA's poor planning. The agency did not take into account the proposed additional railway tracks at Currey Road station while planning a viaduct over it.

Mumbai’s monorail to get three more trains

Now, you can expect smooth operations on the monorail from Wadala to Chembur as the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has managed to bring in three more trains into service, taking the number of functional rakes to four.

14th time in a row, deadline for Monorail corridor revised in Mumbai

The deadline to commission phase-II of the Monorail corridor between Wadala and Jacob Circle was revised for the 14th time after it looked unlikely that the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority would finish the mandatory trial runs by February 2017.

Will Mumbai monorail 2 get delayed again?

Mumbai's monorail doesn’t seem to be enjoying a smooth ride. While services on the Wadala and Jacob Circle Phase 2 corridor were slated to kick-start by April, sources said that the fleet of five monorails rakes, which were expected to arrive in February, might not make it on time.
