Richmond, VA Times-Dispatch, 6/29/16:

Idea for train platform at Randolph-Macon College is designed to meet federal and Amtrak standards, DRPT says

An idea for an elevated train platform at Randolph-Macon College that is being reviewed as part of a larger high-speed rail study was designed to comply with federal and Amtrak guidelines, according to the state Department of Rail and Public Transportation.

Story here. Contrary to what the first sentence above says, they are not going to "elevate" the line through Ashland, but rather build a high level platform that conforms to ADA standards.

Ashland, VA, Station Platform Update

Effective Fall/Winter 2020

Construction is underway to upgrade platforms at the Ashland station in order to make them compliant with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

The platforms and passenger loading areas will be raised, although a lift will still be required for passengers with mobility impairments to board the train. Additional lighting will be added to the east side of the platform.

Construction will be performed in two phases, updating the southern portion first and then the northern portion. The Visitor Center inside the train station will continue to be open and trains will continue to serve Ashland during construction.

Get more information and updates on parking throughout the project.
