The Washington Post, 9/10:

Maryland bus commuters will have to transfer to Metro during Pope Francis’s visit

Maryland residents who take a commuter bus to downtown Washington will have to transfer to the Metrorail system to get to their jobs during Pope Francis’s visit later this month.

More than a dozen commuter bus routes that connect Maryland communities to downtown will be detoured to a Metro station Sept. 23 and Sept. 24, the Maryland Transit Administration said Thursday.  The MTA also announced that it is canceling service on seven routes those two days and riders should find alternate routes to get to their destinations.

Maryland Transit Administration Advisory:

Commuter Bus Modified Schedule 9/23-24 Pope Francis Visit

Commuter Bus service will operate a modified schedule on Wednesday, September 23rd and Thursday, September 24th. Due to the expected traffic congestion by event visitors and significant road closures for security purposes, MTA has determined that we can best accommodate our Washington, DC commuters, by providing service to five (5) Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) Metrorail Stations.

*Morning pick-up times and stops will remain the same as posted in the current timetable, except Route 850 which will run 5 extra trips 15 minutes later than posted trip times.

**Please note: Routes 230, 240, 345, 610, 715, 830, and 840 WILL NOT OPERATE on those days. Patrons are encouraged to use one of the routes that will work best with their commuting schedule. Regular fare will be collected.

Wednesday, September 23, 2015 and Thursday, September 24, 2015- Commuter Bus will operate a modified AM and PM schedule to and from WMATA Metrorail Stations (see schedule here)
