Sounds to me like we're writing down a lot of power and not the entire train. Or perhaps those trains were running light. Very light! smile.gif

John,

Now that's certainly OK. I know it's tough to sometimes get an entire consist. Sometimes the train is going by too fast. Other times, I am about ready to board it myself so I can't be running to both ends of the train to write down all the car numbers. Of course I can also try to get the info from inside, as long as I am a first class passenger and have run of the entire train. Another thing that will stop me is usually bitter cold in the winter. Even with gloves on its hard to be able to write (the pen freezes too) things down. So I go only with what I can remember when I get into a warmer place, or I say forgetaboutit. blink.gif

Hey John,
how long were you in Chicago? It sounds like you had a very busy day of railfanning. I wish we had that much amtrak activity downstate.

Kevin,
It's also hard in Chicago Union Station when you have other Trains blocking each other which can be hard. Where I go normally they 79 MPH in most cases.
