DNA info Chicago, 6/4:

Wilson Station Development Ideas Include Brewery, Row Homes, Offices

UPTOWN — The Wilson Red Line station's $203 million reboot could free up prime land for a transit-oriented development near the station's main entrance.

Realigning tracks as part of the Chicago Transit Authority rebuild, slated to start this fall, will leave nearly 40,000 square feet of space split between two rectangular parcels alongside both sides of the renovated platforms, according to CTA plans.

SNIP

Uptown residents in May produced seven ideas for what to do with the land during a series of community workshops organized by the Metropolitan Planning Council with support from Ald. James Cappleman (46th).

DNAinfo Chicago, 9/17:

Rats Expected to Come Out When Uptown Buildings Come Down

UPTOWN — Once the wrecking ball starts swinging, the rats come out — that's just a fact of life when it comes to demolition projects in a big city. And the CTA's $203 million makeover of the Wilson Red Line will be no exception, officials said.

Ald. James Cappleman (46th) and the Chicago Transit Authority held a community meeting Tuesday about the Red Line project to let Uptown residents know how demolition and construction could affect them once the project starts this fall, and one major concern was rats.

Chicago, IL Tribune, 10/1/14:

CTA to begin work on Wilson Red Line stop this month

CTA riders who use the Wilson Red Line stop soon will need a new thesaurus..

For years, some riders have used words such as “dirty,” “disgusting,” “dilapidated,” “dangerous,” “depressing,” “sad,” “shabby,” “smelly,” “unsafe,” “frightening” and “horrible” in emails to RedEye to describe Uptown’s Wilson station, which dates back to the early 1900s.

Chicago Tribune, 2/26:

CTA's yearlong Wilson station project will slow Loop-bound commutes
Morning commutes toward the Loop will soon take a few minutes longer for some riders on the CTA Red and Purple/Evanston Express rail lines while a section of track is rebuilt over the next year, CTA officials were to announce Thursday.

Starting March 9 and continuing until spring 2016, southbound Purple/Evanston Express trains will share the track used by the southbound Red Line from just south of the Lawrence station to just north of the Belmont station — a stretch where three tracks instead of four will be operating in the CTA's busiest rail corridor, officials said.

The work is part of a broader project to modernize the Wilson station, which began last year and is set to be completed in fall 2017.
