São Paulo pushes ahead with metro expansion

 

 

BRAZIL’s largest city, São Paulo, has announced plans to reactivate a project to extend metro Line 2-Green, build a monorail at Guarulhos International Airport and resume work on monorail Line 17-Gold.

 

The governor of the State of São Paulo, Mr João Doria, announced on June 3 the immediate resumption of final preparations for an 8.3km extension of metro Line 2-Green with eight stations from Vila Prudente north to Penha. Civil works contracts were awarded in 2014, but then suspended due to budget cuts. The goal is to start construction in the first quarter of 2020.
