OTOL Eagle RailFest is here!

If you are on the participant list, you have been getting e-mail updates from me.

Joining us for our 7 hour stint in St. Louis is Larry Thomas of the Terminal Railroad Historical Society. He will accompany us on Metrolink and point out relevant rail sites.

For those headed down to Washington on Regional Train #95, my intentions are to park at work in Weehawken, take HBLRT to Hoboken, PATH to 33rd Street, and walk to New York Penn Station. Should we run into traffic or other delays, we could always take PATH the other way to Newark Penn Station and board Train #95 there. I will inform those in NYP by cell phone if the latter scenario takes place.

For the people meeting in New York Penn Station on Thursday morning, we will meet in the vicinity of the large board in the main Amtrak departure area.

For those meeting us at Washington Union Station on Thursday afternoon, please check the station monitors for the departure gate assigned to the CAPITOL LIMITED (Train #29). We will meet you in that seating area.

We may have as many as three or four people meeting our arrival on Train #29 Friday morning at Chicago Union Station. Meet us at the gate where passengers will be arriving at the south side of the station.

Two people are meeting the group's arrival on Train #303 at the St. Louis Amtrak station.

As far as I know, we won't have any local people from the Dallas area with us. Hopefully we can get a nice tour of the M-Line car barn midday on Tuesday.

We also don't expect any of the Chicago-based people to meet us once more on Wednesday of next week when we come through town again and possibly ride more rail lines. But you are certainly welcome to join us if you are available.

By the time stamp on this message it is obvious that no amount of previous preparation can save me from all-nighters the night before such a trip. I have been dotting my T's and crossing my I's to make sure things work out as best as they can. But then this is one secret to getting an ample night's sleep in coach class the following night!

I'll see some participants tomorrow, and the rest of you who are joining us in Chicago, St. Louis and Dallas in the next few days! biggrin.gif

I am in my hotel in St. Louis after attending the first 11 innings of last night's Cardinals-Astros game.

It looks like I'll meet the group on time per the Amtrak train status web site.
