California startup Dreamstar wants to run a private night train between SF and LA

 

 

A privately funded project to operate a nightly first-class passenger train between San Francisco and Los Angeles is underway.
 
Dreamstar Lines Inc., a small Newport Beach company, says it’s working on lining up the railcars, financing, staffing and agreements needed to offer the first night train on the route in decades.
 
However, hurdles remain before the train can start operating.

SoCal company plans to launch first-class passenger train service between LA and San Francisco

 

Reports say it would use the same route as Amtrak's Coast Starlight.

 

 

LOS ANGELES -- A company from Newport Beach is reportedly planning to launch a nightly first-class passenger train service between Los Angeles and San Francisco.

 

According to the SFGate, Dreamstar Lines Inc. said it's working on "lining up the railcars, financing, staffing and agreements needed to offer the first night train on the route in decades."

 

SFGate said the the train would leave at 10 p.m. and arrive by 8:30 a.m. and would use the same route as Amtrak's Coast Starlight.

Go for it!! Excellent market.

Amtrak had something similar with its short-lived Spirit of California, but because it also went to Sacramento, it had to travel via the East Bay stations rather than using the CalTrain route into downtown San Francisco.

Downside: Night train misses the scenery.

San Francisco-to-L.A. overnight train inches closer to reality

 

A plan to utilize existing train tracks to offer a luxury overnight ride between two of California’s economic and cultural hubs is looking less and less like a fantasy.

 

Last month, Dreamstar Lines, a Newport Beach-based transit startup, came into agreement with one of the nation’s most important freight companies, taking the first steps toward making the overnight service between San Francisco and Los Angeles a reality.
