“Riding Harrisburg Trolleys: Then and Now” will be the topic of a multimedia talk by Steven Goehring to Harrisburg Chapter National Railway Historical Society on October 11 at Hoss’s Restaurant, 743 Wertzville Rd., Enola, PA.  Business meeting and speaker begin at 7 pm, with a meal available as early as 5 pm. Dinner and meeting are open to the public.

Goehring’s program will bring to life everyday experiences of passengers and trolley crews and share how and where people can enjoy the same sights, sounds, and feelings today.  He will begin with an historical overview of Harrisburg Railways, the Valley Railways, and other local electric trolley lines from the 1860s to the 1930s. The talk will also describe in detail the preservation of two Harrisburg area trolley cars at the Rockhill Trolley Museum and an upcoming project to restore one such 120-year old trolley to its former glory.

Goehring is a qualified trolley operator on the museum’s 1.5-mile demonstration line, serves on the board of directors, and leads its Historic Preservation Department.

Rockhill Trolley Museum is a 501© (3) nonprofit educational organization located in Huntingdon County, PA. Museum members restore and maintain more than twenty streetcars and interurbans that ran mostly in Pennsylvania cities. Since its founding in 1962, the museum has occupied a portion of the Shade Gap Branch of the East Broad Top Railroad.

Harrisburg Chapter, one of over 135 chapters of the National Railway Historical Society, is a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to studying railroad history and preserving significant local railroad artifacts. Major projects include: maintaining Pennsylvania’s official electric locomotive (GG-1 # 4859), and preserving and operating Harris Tower.
