Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford to spend $26 million on transit hub

Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford has uncovered $26 million left from completed or inactive city projects and he has plans on how to spend that money.

The mayor said Thursday evening he intends to use some of that money immediately to complete the city's intermodal transportation facility on Morris Avenue. And he wants more of the money to be used for street paving and repairs.

Let's hope there's provision for the streetcar line that Mayor Langford wants.

There is no mention of proposed commuter rail that would run from Birmingham to Montgomery, starting in June 2020.  The putative operator would be Alabama Corridor Rail which apparently has ties to a company that once bid against Iowa Pacific for operating rights to the Hoosier State.  Hopefully policymakers will have the arrangements in place so this new service can happen!
