This thread is to discuss hotels in the Denver area related to the Rockies RailFest 2014 event. If arriving with the group Thursday night and leaving with us Friday night, you will require 1 night. Here are things to keep in mind:
  • Arrival into DEN is scheduled to be 6:38 PM on Thursday night. If you need the light rail to get to your hotel, it runs until very late at night. There are 3 routes that operate from Union Station, although the C route only runs until about an hour after that time. Afterwards one can transfer between the E and D lines at the I-25/Broadway station.
  • There is a free MallRide Shuttle bus that operates along 16th Street in downtown Denver. It begins and ends at Union Station and may provide you with free access to your hotel even if more than several blocks away.
  • Many hotels are clustered within downtown Denver, but there may be other affordable properties you could travel further to, such as along the Southeast line by the Denver Tech Center.
We are not looking to be "party central" here as was suggested earlier. It is not necessary that everyone stay at the same hotel unless they are sharing rooms. Many have different financial needs or belong to loyalty programs with particular chains. Thus you may by coincidence have company for breakfast, or you could also hook up if your hotel is closer to that of another participant. As our more established Fest participants know, after our 2002 Fest in the Boston area, we have not settled on any particular hotel anywhere as an "Official Fest Hotel".

You may also wish to consider that a hotel can hold your luggage after checkout since you'll be leaving town on Friday evening. That being the case, your hotel would need to be relatively close to the station so you can later return to pickup your luggage.

With the above points in mind, a guide to hotels near rail transportation is here.

I added a couple of hotels to the list in the Lakewood area. These appear to be several blocks walk from the Federal Center station on the West (W) Line.

It's time to do the confidential contacts listing, which includes chosen hotel locations. Please e-mail me your information for Thursday night in Denver, as well as your latest cellphone number is if has changed.
