People have had plenty of gripes with the new Champlain bridge (the overall budget, tolls) but one feature may make up for all of the woes accompanying the major building project:

O Scale Trolley Modelers opines that the proposed rail transit will not be light rail but will be "light metro" similar to Toronto's Scarborough line or Vancouver's SkyTrain.

Favorable editorial on this mega project

Editorial: New commuter trains can't arrive soon enough There is a lot to like about the $5.5-billion commuter-rail project announced Friday that would bring more trains to the West Island and South Shore, and add a long-awaited link to Trudeau Airport.

REM train network plan includes stops at McGill, Édouard-Montpetit, Peel-Bassin

Proponents of the proposed $5.5-billion electric train project to link downtown Montreal to the South Shore and the West Island via Trudeau airport say they are studying the idea of adding three more stations to the first phase of the project: one near McGill University, one near Université de Montréal and one in Griffintown.

CTV, 11/25/16:

Montreal light rail will connect to downtown metro system

The Caisse de Depot is cementing its plans to build a light-rail network throughout the Montreal area by saying it will connect to the metro system at three locations.

The original map for the REM showed stops in the same location as the Edouard Montpetit and McGill metro stations -- but the cost of those stations was never factored into the original $5.5 billion plan.
