The story said the gun man shot from an open window of a commuter train. Does not make sense.

Amtrak conductor shot by passenger at Naperville Metra station, police say

NAPERVILLE, Ill. (WLS) -- A suspect is in custody after shooting an Amtrak train conductor in the stomach at the Naperville Metra station, police said.

"Amtrak people crying and they come on the intercom announcing if anyone is a medic or has medical training to come. And he sounded out of breath when he was asking," said Vickie, a passenger.

Investigators said a man in his 70s reached out of the train's window and shot the conductor after he stepped off the train Tuesday afternoon. The gunman was held by passengers until police arrived.

"We don't know any motive at this time or reason why it happened. We know that the conductor stepped out onto the platform and the suspected reached out a window and fired at him," said Cmdr. Louis Cammiso, Naperville Police Department.

More Surgery For Amtrak Conductor Shot At Naperville Station

(CBS) — The 45-year-old Amtrak conductor who was critically wounded May 16 while working on the eastbound Southwest Chief, at the Naperville station, is undergoing a second round of major surgery overnight.

Edward Hospital Medical Director Dr. David Piazza describes the operation taking place on conductor Michael Case, of Homewood, as “car wash surgery.”

He says the goal is to clean out anything that could cause infection, such as fluids that spilled from one organ to the next at the time he was wounded.

SNIP

He said most people who sustain wounds to the abdomen of the type Case endured die before doctors can treat them. Piazza said the bullet that struck Case missed two major veins by “millimeters.”
