A poll done by the government relations, political, and public affairs consulting firm, Heartland Strategy Group found likely more than two-thirds of Omaha voters oppose Mayor Stothert's streetcar plan.

The Omaha Streetcar Authority is on board with looking beyond state boundaries.

Probably a good idea given the number of casinos in Council Bluffs that would surely generate ridership as long as it's not a slow ride on the streetcar.  But a first phase needs to be built on the Nebraska side first in downtown Omaha before extending it to the east into Iowa.

 

Light rail crossing state lines is nothing new.... witness Metro St. Louis, which crosses the Mississippi River and serves both Missouri and Illinois.  Portland's TriMet MAX Yellow Line may someday cross a bridge into Washington.
