While Toledo is holding their National Train Day event a week early on May 2 at the MLK Plaza/Amtrak Station (see April 15 e-mail for details or contact 419-536-0993, TrainDayToledo@aol.com), organizations in two other cities report that they will also host National Train Day events, but on May 9....

Cincinnati: The Cincinnati Railroad Club will have an open house of Tower A at Cincinnati Union Terminal, 1301 Western Avenue, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday May 9, rain or shine. There are historical exhibits, books and other items for sale, and it's a great place to watch the busy freight train activity at Queensgate Yard. Plus there will be Amtrak schedules, brochures and buttons, plus literature from All Aboard Ohio and the National Association of Railroad Passengers. For more information, see: http://cincinnatirrc...org/Index2.html

Cleveland: Midwest Railway Preservation Society will have an open house of the Baltimore & Ohio Roundhouse, 2800 West 3rd Street, from 12 noon to 4 p.m., Saturday May 9, rain or shine. There are historic locomotives, railroad passenger and freight equipment, plus buildings -- all in various states of refurbishment. This is part of the Society's mandate to provide education about railroading, and to show people plans to restore the roundhouse and open a railroad history museum in Cleveland. Be sure to wear sturdy clothing and closed-toe shoes, as the site is still in rough condition. Refreshments are available. For more information, see: http://www.midwestra...e/openhouse.htm .
