President Francois Hollande of France has insisted that a controversial labour reform will not be withdrawn as strike action looms on the railways.
"The text assures the best performance for businesses and offers new rights to employees," he told a newspaper.

MoreFrench rail strikes to hit around half of train services
A rolling strike by French rail workers will begin on Tuesday evening with forecasts suggesting around half of the train services will be not be running.
The nationwide strike will see all kinds of rail services cancelled and disrupted across France from Tuesday evening onwards.

There was some slight improvement in the number of services on Monday, with six out of ten high speed TGVs and regional TER trains running, according to rail operator SNCF.

French rail boss hopes to end strike before Euro 2016 kick-off
The head of French state railway SNCF said on Tuesday he hoped the powerful CGT union would endorse a new deal on working conditions and end a strike before the Euro 2016 soccer tournament, hosted by France, starts on Friday.
