“Steam Engine Revival in Minersville” will be the topic of an illustrated talk by Bob Kimmel, President of Railway Restoration Project 113, to Harrisburg Chapter National Railway Historical Society on November 8 at Hoss’s Restaurant, 743 Wertzville Rd., Enola, PA.  Business meeting and speaker begin at 7 pm, with a meal available as early as 5 pm. Dinner and meeting are open to the public.

Kimmel will recount the history of Central Railroad of New Jersey locomotive # 113 and its journey from scrapyard to operating condition.  Currently the engine pulls excursion trains from Minersville, PA to various locations in Schuylkill County.

Because of its 0-6-0 wheel arrangement, # 113 was a switch engine.  It started its career in Jersey City, NJ and then it was sold to the Philadelphia and Reading Coal and Iron Company where it was used primarily for shunting coal cars at the Locust Summit Central Colliery in Pennsylvania’s Anthracite Region.

Railway Restoration Project 113 is a 501 © (3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the history of railroading in Schuylkill County Pennsylvania.

Harrisburg Chapter, one of over 135 chapters of the National Railway Historical Society, is a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to studying railroad history and preserving significant local railroad artifacts. Major projects include: maintaining Pennsylvania’s official electric locomotive (GG-1 # 4859), and preserving and operating Harris Tower Railroad Museum.
