Progressive Railroading, 9/30/13:

All Aboard Florida (AAF) officials have made "significant progress" in recent months toward their proposed, privately-owned and operated passenger-rail service that would run between south and central Florida, railroad officials said in an email issued last week.

Here is the item.

You really don't learn anything new from this; it's only an announcement telling you that they plan to make subsequent announcements. They felt they had to make some noise to let you know they are still alive.

Orlando, FL Sentinel, 10/3/13:

All Aboard Florida train could start construction next year, open in late 2015

People who now drive from Central to South Florida could within two years hop on a train for a three-hour trip instead, thanks to deals being reached this week.

Owned by Florida East Coast Industries of Coral Gables, All Aboard Florida is planning depots at Orlando International Airport, West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Miami. The trains would run on a 230-mile route.

This one is here.

This article was on the front page above the fold of the print copy of the Orlando Sentinel. :)

All Aboard Florida to have big impact on Orlando

The 17-month journey for the $1.5 billion Orlando-to-Miami passenger rail to get the blessings of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority is finally over.

Story is here.

There is an on-line survey on Cable Channel 13's website asking if the reader would take All Aboard Florida from Orlando to Miami?

45% said yes
32% said no
23% said maybe.

I don't know if this really merits a smiley face. While it appears that "yes" won with 45%, that's less than half. Consider that 55% DIDN"T say "yes".

Remember as people begin to understand the plans, Orlando will seem to some like the unwanted stepchild. Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach will get downtown stations, while Orlando's will be on the property of the airport. It remains to be seen whether there will be some connections with All Aboard Florida to downtown Orlando, and/or the theme parks, and whether SunRail will play any role in transporting those passengers.

I figured having more "yes" votes than "no" votes was a positive thing in Orlando. We are a bit backwards in Orlando. People seem to be interested in SunRail. Hopefully there will be a connection for AAF to Downtown.
