Progressive Railroading, 3/29:

CSX to trim Stanley Yard operations, lay off 34 workers

CSX is reducing operations at its Stanley Yard in Toledo, Ohio, which will result in the elimination of 34 union positions, the Class I said yesterday.

CSX is closing the Stanley classification hump yard as part of the company's "ongoing efforts to be more efficient and reduce operating costs," CSX spokeswoman Gail Lobin said in an email.

Sentinel-Tribune, Bowling Green, OH 3/29:

CSX cuts 34 jobs at Stanley Yard

WALBRIDGE — There are 34 CSX employees who have been informed of the loss of their jobs from the Stanley Yard in Lake Township.

A news release provided by Gail Lobin, CSX Corporate Communications, reads, “CSX informed employees on Saturday that it is reducing the size of its operations at its Stanley Yard in Toledo as part of the company’s ongoing efforts to be more efficient and reduce operating costs. As a result, approximately 34 union positions are being eliminated at Stanley Yard. CSX understands that these reductions will be difficult for affected employees and their families, and we’re working to support those employees through the transition.”

The statement also said, “The decision to make these reductions follows a review of Toledo-area operations. CSX has determined that by changing the way railcars are sorted at Stanley Yard, it will be able to process trains more efficiently, which will result in better service to our customers.”
