I have noticed that effective with the April 6, 2015 timetable change, some new Thruway motorcoach connections have been added late at night out of Chicago.  One, 8356, runs along the Wolverines corridor from Chicago to Detroit, making only one intermediate stop at Kalamazoo. It departs CHI 10:55 PM, and gets to DET 5:55 AM next morning.  The other, 8307, runs along the Hiawathas and Empire Builder route from Chicago to St. Paul-Minneapolis, making one intermediate stop at Milwaukee. It leaves Chicago at 9:15 PM and gets to MSP at 6 AM next morning.

In both cases there is no reciprocal Chicago-bound Thruway motorcoach.  One can therefore deduce that these late night buses are used primarily to transport misconnects who arrive very late into Chicago don't make the last scheduled Wolverine or Hiawatha Service train, or the Empire Builder. This saves Amtrak from putting passengers up in a Chicago area hotel, instead allowing them to put the passengers on a bus to Milwaukee, St. Paul-Minneapolis, Kalamazoo, or Detroit.

Both are currently running as I type this !! :)
