More Denver suburbs ferry residents to light rail, but Golden may be thwarted by RTD cuts

GOLDEN — On Monday, the city plans to expand a bus program that runs between its downtown and the last stop on the W-Line — a so-called “first mile/final mile” service for commuters that is gaining traction across metro Denver.

The best would be for RTD to extend the line to Colorado Railroad Museum.  That would be a patronage booster for both the transit authority and the museum.  Sloan

Letter to Editor in Denver, CO Post, 9/23/17:

Compared to the ill-designed R Line lightrail, driving is faster

Living in the Denver Tech Center area and being a frequent business traveler, I waited in great anticipation for the opening of the light rail R Line to link with the Denver International Airport A Line train. No longer would I have to park at the airport and I would save time and money by taking the R to A line connection.

Aurora, CO Sentinel,   9/23/17:

RTD union says a lack of train operators, not ridership, is the impetus behind Aurora R Line cuts

The union that represents Regional Transportation District bus drivers and light rail operators is the latest to sound off on the agency’s proposed service cuts to the recently-opened R Line, which opened just six months ago along Interstate 225 after years of planning and construction.

Looks like this is now official.  From Denver, CO Business Journal, 10/25/17:

RTD cuts service on Aurora, Golden light rail lines

Faced with disappointing ridership numbers, RTD is cutting service on two of its light-rail lines -- including a route across Aurora that opened just eight months ago.

But the reductions will be less severe than originally proposed in response to fierce criticism of the cuts from Aurora's mayor and riders.
