The final official conveyance of the Fest is Train #6(17), boarding in Denver on July 18th and detraining in Chicago on July 19th. Report on that trip here.

Of the four trips we had on the California Zephyr, this was the only one that left our departure point exactly on time. But the success was short-lived, as one woman (a mother) who had been on before Denver chose to do some shopping in town during the layover, and missed the train. We believe that during a rather long stop about a mile north of the station at a grade crossing, she was driven to the train. The train lost a little more time due to BNSF freight traffic. In the morning we found ourselves still in Nebraska, around Omaha. But we were a little over an hour late. By Galesburg and Princeton, we managed to be around 2 hours late. Good crew, except one of the three sleeper attendants seems to have gotten up on the wrong side of the roomette. Since Jishnu decided to play musical roomettes (switching rooms twice), nobody is in that particular car anyhow. Crew and consist are the same on this train as we had on the run from Salt Lake City to Reno on Wednesday morning.

The California Zephyr arrived in Chicago at 4:23 PM, 1 hour 33 minutes late. Thus all worries about making connections, while valid, ended up being moot as everyone tonight will make their next trains.
