Our second day of travel is underway. From the hotel to the Rochester train station, some took a hired car and some walked. Once we were all at the station we tracked the progress of the eastbound Lake Shore Limited.

48/448 was running on time from Chicago to Buffalo Depew but it was delayed in leaving there. Rochester station staff had everyone on the platform 10 minutes before train time. It got into ROC 10 am and with us aboard we left 10:10 AM, 17 minutes down.

We have 6 people today with one who came from Chicago on this train joining us.

We were doing very well until just before we got to the Albany-Rensselaer station. Our train came to a stop still on the Livingston Street Bridge but over land just east of the Hudson River. We sat there for quite a while. Announcements as to what was going on were not clear; only that crew had to walk the train and that a bridge Inspector was called out to the scene. But we were ON the bridge, so it didn't make sense. An alert came from Amtrak itself via Twitter just about the time we got moving, stating there had been a "bridge malfunction".

We arrived ALB 50 minutes late, and station work ensued. There was the opportunity to perhaps make some time back, but we left at 3:54 PM, 49 minutes off the advertised.

Normal slow running on curvy track southeast of Albany plus the expected meet with #449 put us over an hour late into Pittsfield. We expect to arrive Springfield around 6:45 or so.

The benefit of doing this today is that you had more daylight for looking out the window.

Arrival into Springfield was 6:46 PM. 1 hour 18 minutes late. Then we had misfortune of no large hired cars and too long to wait for smaller cars. After walking to other side of the building, took a free Loop bus which got us right to our hotel. Day ended with all 6 of us at Uno restaurant next to Hilton Garden Inn where 5 of the 6 of us are staying.
