Use this thread to post reports on your travels home from your involvement in the Fest, whether you are leaving the group in Albuquerque or Chicago. This includes the various eastbound trips to the East Coast.

My Fest ended yesterday with the last Rail Runner ride, even though I briefly saw some of the group at dinner in the Hyatt last night. After a rapid trip from the Hyatt to ABQ Airport this morning, and a quick and uneventful passing through security (body scanner included), I am now killing time at the gate on the free ABQ wifi waiting for my 8:35am flight to Houston. The aircraft is at the gate, so at least this leg appears hopeful. The Houston to Philadelphia leg, we'll see. The weather back home is not great, and PHL does not behave well in bad weather, so there is some possibility of issues. One step at a time.

The ABQ-IAH flight left on-time and arrived Houston about 15 minutes early. I had a nice lunch in Houston. The Philadelphia flight left about 30 minutes late due to the aircraft late arriving IAH from Tampa (weather). No ground stop was in place for PHL, thank goodness. Nice flight. We landed in lousy weather at PHL (very low ceiling and misty rain), and arrived at the gate at 6:29pm - 35 minutes late For PHL in off weather, that's great. After a long SEPTA, NJT, and PATCO rail journey, I got home about 8:20pm.

CSX had several miles of trackwork between Utica and Schenectady causing large delays on the 48/448, 448 had to back up a mile in Chatham, NY to clear a switch and let the 449(24) pass. Padding into BOS let the final delay drop down to 30-35 minute.

My see-both-worlds trip on #30 has now completed. Chicago ushers seemed to have difficulty figuring out how to board coach passengers, thus ensuring a late departure. Once out of our time window, we met freights all over the place across Indiana. Toledo came over an hour late, and it was there post-midnight that I switched from coach to sleeper. Luckily my attendant Cliff had my bed down and ready to go. Breakfast was good, but nobody reminded me that there is one long breakfast-lunch session, so I would have had to return there for lunch. I was waiting for an announcement, but none came from anyone. When I went to inquire about 11:30 AM they had just closed. Ended up purchasing my cheeseburger so I'd survive the rest of the trip into Washington. Now I'm in Club Acela Washington, waiting for my final Amtrak train, a Regional to Philly. Then NJT back to my car in Cherry Hill, NJ.... followed by an hour-or-so drive and I'm finally done.

The trip home was uneventful. The train lost time due to traffic on the NS line before Michigan city and slow orders on Amtrak own line put us a hour behind. arrived into royal oak about 48 minutes late. The conductor liked my one luggage tag that I got from alanB during the boston event on AU saying it was snazzy. Found a local cab waiting at the station and took him home. even though the meter said $25 he just charged me a even $20 so gave the driver a $2 tip.
