• Street party planned to showcase newly purchased trolley

• A Belmont group has bought a 112-year-old trolley it plans to soon begin running through the city.

  To celebrate the old-fashioned rail car’s impending arrival and renovation, a downtown street party is being planned for the evening of Oct. 2. It will offer residents a chance to finally see the trolley firsthand, while ideally further inspiring financial support that’s still needed to complete the venture.

Maintenance, cosmetic work continuing on Belmont trolley

When Chris Allen worked on streetcars for the N.C. Transportation Museum and the city of Charlotte 20 to 30 years ago, it was more of a traditional 9-to-5 job.

But as the chief mechanic in charge of fixing the gears and electrical guts of Belmont's new trolley, Allen gets to apply his expertise in a more enjoyable, low-pressure environment.
