a.. Tropical Storm Bonnie: Tropical Storm Bonnie made landfall about 10 a.m. today near Apalachicola in the Panhandle. The storm is expected to approach Macon, Ga., by this evening. Train operations have been suspended between Jacksonville and Pensacola, Fla. An operating plan is in place to restore service after the storm passes. The necessary materials and equipment have been staged at various locations in advance of the storm. CSXT's Engineering Department will arrange track inspections prior to initiating any train movements following the storm. All precautions will be taken to ensure the safety of our employees, customers and the public with minimum delay to shipments as we continue to monitor the progress of this storm. We will continue to reassess the situation and update this message as circumstances change.
b.. Hurricane Charley: We also continue to monitor the approach of Hurricane Charley. A hurricane watch remains in effect for the Florida Keys and Florida's western coast. Maximum sustained winds are now over 100 mph with higher gusts. CSXT personnel have begun to tie crossing gates in the Clearwater, Fla., area and soon will begin that process in the Bradenton area. Materials and equipment are being staged in many locations to prepare for the storm and restore service after it passes. Train operations are to be curtailed in the central Florida area from 7 a.m. Friday, Aug. 13, until 7 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, in anticipation of the storm's arrival. No plan is in place at this time to curtail train operations in South Florida. We will continue to report changes in service in accordance with the storm's strength and direction.
