Official beginning of Northgate station construction as the [temporary] terminus of Northgate Link.  Preliminary infrastructure work has been ongoing at the site for over two years, but things are picking up now.  Service to begin in four years.

Update from Sound Transit.

As seen from a drone.  YouTube video courtesy of Sound Transit.  That's of course I-5 to the west.  The buildings seen across the freeway are those of North Seattle College.  A pedestrian overpass across I-5 will directly connect the college to the station, thus obviating a long detour to either NE 105th Street or NE 92nd Street in order to pass under or cross over I-5.  The next video in the queue, showing ST3 extensions, might be of interest.

Sound Transit breaks ground on Northgate light-rail station

The station is one of three that are scheduled to begin service in 2021 in tandem with the Northgate Link Extension’s completion. The $1.9 billion Northgate Link project will expand light-rail service 4.3 miles north, beginning at the University of Washington and stretching to a station next to the King County Northgate Transit Center, officials say.

Tunnel cross passage construction update

Work on the surface above tunnel crosses passages is nearing completion. Crews are currently decommissioning dewatering wells, freezing plants and other instrumentation along the alignment. As Sound Transit’s contractor demobilizes from these sites, neighbors and passersby may notice traffic impacts as crews remove the equipment. Later this year, permanent restoration of the affected areas will be carried out to match Seattle Department of Transportation standards.

Impressive progress at Northgate!  Even in the backdrop of continued smoky white skies due to forest fires across the border.  After some ten miles in the dark all the way from International District/Chinatown, trains will emerge into the light just to the south of the elevated station.  Right in view of gridlocked traffic on adjacent I-5!

All aboard for a sneak peek of the future Northgate light-rail station

At the future Northgate Station, work continues on the elevated station and new concrete guideways where light-rail trains will pause and turn back toward downtown Seattle, when service reaches Northgate in 2021.

Construction of the pedestrian bridge over I-5, which will connect North Seattle College to the Northgate Link station is set to begin shortly.  From the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT).

Here are recently released photos of the three new stations on the Northgate Link subway extension, all nearing completion.  I was not able to post this the "normal" way (url coding), so this will suffice for the time being.  Daily service to commence in a mere seven months!
