Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) later this week will close its Warm Springs/South Fremont Station to prepare for the opening of the Silicon Valley extension.

In cooperation with the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority, BART will install new software at the station and test it. BART also will run test trains on the track, which is why the agency will close the station for a short time.

The station will be closed Sept. 23-24 and Sept. 30 through Oct. 1. During the closures, BART will provide bus service from the closed station to the Fremont Station.

While I am all for opening rail lines in piecemeal fashion as they are ready to go into service, the Warm Springs/South Fremont extension was delayed so much that it's almost going to be back to back with the opening of the next extension to Berryessa. Perhaps opening the whole segment from Fremont to Berryessa would have been better than the incremental approach since now the station has to be closed again for at least a couple of weekends.   Short of that, the software could have been installed before, but just not yet activated as long as Warm Springs serves as the endpoint station.
